NAPIER NOTES.
The Rev. Father O'Connor, of Napier, who has received notice of transfer to St. Anne's, Newtown," will be greatly missed in this district, where he has endeared himself to members of all the Churches by his quiet work in connection with the sick and in giving assistance whenever required. Publicly'he is little known,'but his actions have earned him many friends, and his coming departure is deeply regretted. The Seventh Day Adventists, who are campjng at Napier, held a baptismal service- in the river yesterday, which was attended by a very large crowd. The Napier Operatic Society has decided to produce "The Cingaleo," and have booked the opening dates of the Hastings Syndicate's new theatre for that purpose.
_ Endeavours are being made to establish a drum and fife Tjand in Napier, but though tuition is offered free of charge few applicants are forthcoming. Messrs. H. G. H. Glazebrook and H. Lan Simson have been nominated for the vacancy on the County Council caused by the resignation of Mr. F. L. Gordon, who represented the Clive Riding.
