CITY CRICKET.
GOLLAPSE OF THE NORTH ELEVEN
TWO MORE CENTURIES
The feature of Saturday's cricket on the Basin Reserve was the collapse of the North eleven. North were drawn to play Old Boys, and, in the ordinary course, they should have made a great score against the ex-collegians, for North is a very strong batting side, and Old Boys weak in attack. However, North wound up the day's play in a very bad position Old Boys batted first, and totalled 255. North went to tho creaso late in the day, but before the drawing of stumps nine of their batsmen had been routed for 85 runs. Quite iiow this happened seems to be beyond explanation, but the fact is that every batsman except Walters has failed. K. Tucker, who is frequently alluded to as a veteran, did most of the damage for Old Boys; so far, he has got five of their wickets at an expense of 4.0 runs.
Some big scoring was done in East's innings against University. W. R. L. Gibbes, who was at the top of his form a few seasons ago, made a chanceless century, and was not disposed of till h<- had compiled 167. Midlane and Baker both passed the half-century, and Lambert ran up 42. East have left College a big task to accomplish. . EAST AND UNIVERSITY. East.—First Innings. Baker, e. Bums, b.
