THE SUPPLY OF SHIPS
SAFE UNTIL MARCH AN IMPORTANT CONFERENCE A conference took place yesterday between representatives of the Board of Agriculture and the different shipping companies doing business in New Zealand. It was presided over by tho I'rime Minister. Messrs. R. Triggs,' C. J. Reakcs, and D. Cuddio were also present, representing the Departments of Commerce and Agriculture. The proceedings were not open to the Press, but the object of the conference was to discuss the position with regard to tho supply of insulated tonnage available for carrying New Zealand produce to England. The conference Was lengthy, and, it is understood, of a very amicable and satisfactory character, the members of the Board of Agriculture admitting that everything possible had been dono, and was still being done both <by -the Government and by the shipping companies to prevent anything in the way of a block in. the dairying or fruit industries, also that the outlook appeared to be satisfactory up to tlie end of February. After that, however, if the present extraordinaxy output of frozen meat and dairy produce continues, it was recognised that possibly seme inconvenience would be inevitable. It was arranged that a statement should be prepared with regard to what has taken, place and made public within a few days, so that those interested may understand the position.
