STANDARD PRICE FOR BREAD PETITION IN MELBOURNE. Melbourne, January 29. 'A deputation, of members of trades councils has petitioned the Prices of Goods Board for a standard price of bread and other, commodities. • They protested against the recent increase as unjustifiable. The board is considering the request. The chairman stated that there had been nothing like a general rise in commodities. He believed the Melbourne merchants had done their best to stop the inflation of prices. , HEMS IN BRIEF STATE CEMENT WORKS IN AUSTRALIA. Melbourne, January 29. At a meeting of the Public Works Committee a proposal was mooted for the Federal Government to start oement works to supply the cement needed for .public Torks at. Canberra and other places.
