MIRAMAE BOROUGH COUNCIL

FTEST MEETING OP THE HEAR. The Miramar Borough Council held the first meeting of the New Year last night.' The Mayor (Mr. P. Townsend) presided, and there were also present: Councillors S. M. Stone, S. H. Underwood, H. Hawthorne, M. Tracy, and Dr. Edith Huntley. A letter from the Public Works Department advised that the conditions of a license for tho sale of electric light were that the term should be 42 years and the cost of power sold should not exceed _Bd. per unit for lighting and 3d. per unit for heating and motor power. The letter asked if the council would agree to the terms.

The Town Clerk was instructed to notify the Department that the terms were satisfactory. I In regard to the slot telephone at Miramar North, the Post and Telegraph Department wrote stating that the machine would be retained in its present position provided the council paid 9s. (estimated loss by the box being broken open), and £1 to cover the cost of a metal casing as a guard against future thefts. It was resolved to leave the matter in the hands of the Mayor to take such aotion as he considered necessary in further negotiations with the Department. It was reported that a bell had now been erected at the fire station at Park ltoad. Councillor Stone stated that he had heard that an effort had been made by the' Catholic Picnic Committee to charge for.. ; admission to Seatoun Park oq Boxing Day. He was not fully acquainted with the facts as Councillor Smith, who mentioned the matter to him, was not present at the meeting. The Mayor pointed out that as nothing definite was before the council, no action • could be taken. Inquiries could be made, however, and, _if it were found that there was anything in the complaint, the council would know how to deal with the parties on a future occasion. The Borough report showed that 'during the period a; further connection had been made with the water mains and the connections now totalled 363. One permit had been issued for sewer connection, making the total 283. Four building permits had been issued of a value of £1360, the fees amounting to £7. Referring to the power house, the Mayor.said that there were certain questions relating thereto which required the careful attention of the council, and on his suggestion the council went into committee to consider these matters.
