STATEMENT BY DEFENCE MINIS- '- — TER. (By TeleeraDli.—Pros* Association.* Dunedin, January 28. The Hon. J. Allen, Minister of Defence, made a statement to-day with regard to the position of the troopers who have returned to New Zealand from Egypt, invalided. "These men," said Mr. Allen, "will be ssen by the principal medical officer of the district in which they disembarked and dealt with as under:— - "(1) If they are unfit to travel they will be sent to the district hospital. ".(2) If convalescent they willbe sent to their homes on sick leave for a period considered to be sufficient for their recovery. ■ At the expiration of this period they will be examined by the Medical Board at the nearest district headquarters. • If unfit for active service they will be discharged as medically unfit; if fit, they will be posted to the reinforcements. '_ "(3) If already recovered from their illness they will be examined by the Medical Board as in the last portion.of paragraph 2. '■_. _ • "I regret," added the Minister, "that some' men were discharged in Egypt for misconduot and others for refusing inoculation. Having been discharged, these men, on their arrival in New Zealand, are civilians and cannot be further dealt with by the Defence Department." . !
