CRUISER DAMAGED
IN THE BALTIC STRUCK BY A TORPEDO _ , London, January 26. Renter's correspondent" at Malmo (oweden) states that the German cruiser trazelJe was torpedoed and damaged near Rugen, and has returned to Sassnitz. Copenhagen, January 26. The light cruiser Gazelle, which was struck by a torpedo off Engen Island, m tlio Baltic Sea, is badly damaged. The Gazelle is a third-class cruiser of , 2603 tons, built at Kiel in 1898 at a cost of £225,000. Her main armament consists of 10 4.lin. guns", and she has three torpedo tubes. Her speed is 21 knots, and Tier complement 261. TRAFFIC STOPPED. BETWEEN SWEDEN AND GERMANY (Rec. January 27, 9.25 p.m.) Copenhagen, January 27. Several Russian submarines unexpectedly appeared at Rugen, and the traffic between Sweden and Germany was stopped. Twelve large submarines were built at, Petrograd during tlio past year, and it is hoped it will be possible with these to stop tlio imports of copper and petrol into Germany via Scandinavia.
