KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
TRAMWAY MATTERS. At last night's meeting of the Karori Borough Council th© Mayor (Mr. W. T. Hildreth) presided and there were also present: Councillors B. G. Burn, W. Bradnock, A. Hamilton, L. P. Davies, P. C. Jordan, J. W. Henderson, W. Skegg. ■ i! The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the officer .commanding the sth Regiment stating that Karori Park would be available for the purpose of a military camp and giving a description of the accommodation at the pari. In connection with the request by the residents of Campbell Street, that a footpath be formed on the eastern side of that street, it was resolved, that the matter should receive consideration when nest year's estimates were being prepared. _ , , The Borough Engineer reported that the reservoir at the quarry had been enlarged and that its capacity was n«w 3000 gallons. During tne past nine months the working of the quarry had resulted in a satisfactory profit, and the council had obtained the irifctal for its own streets at a comparatively low rate. The tram track in various places was in urgent need of repair, and, in this connection, the engineer suggested that certain portions of the track should be treated with tar macadam without delay. Both the Mayor and Council Burn expressed the opinion that any expenditure on the track now would probably mean a saving in the long run. Besides there was all the time the risk of an accident, in which event the council might be liable for damages. On tho recommendation of the Publio Works Committee it was decided that the Borough Engineer be,instructed to repair the. track along the extension and a part of the old track from Johnston Street round Mr. Dryden'a corner at a probable cost of £120. Copy of a proposed new time-table for the Karori tram service was forwarded by the General Manager of the City Tramways with the request that the matter should receive the urgent attention, of the oouncil. The Tramways Committee recommended that the proposed time-table should be adopted with certain amendments. . . After discussion it was decided to defer final action in the matter until the Mayor could arrive at a satisfactory understanding with the tramway authorities in regard to stop-over time.
