OBITUARY
: F. Y. LETHBRIDGE, EX-MJP. (By Teleerash—Press Association J Feilding, January 26. Mr. F. T. Lethbridge, ex-M.P, for proua,,died this morning after a lengthy ; illness and an operation, for appendicitis. "He was a member of Parliament for nine years, and had occupied many puhlio positions, including the Mayoralty of Feilding. 7 .He was also a member of the Wanganui Education. Board. The late Mr. Frank Yates lethbridge was born in New Plymouth in 18-52, his father, Mr. 6. Y. Lethbridge (who sat in the Taranaki Provincial Council) being one of the earliest settlers there. After attending a private school, he went to the Nelson Public School, then to the Boys' High School, Christcnurch, and finished his_ education in a private school in Wellington. After leaving school he worked on hie father's farm till 1876, when he went to Feilding and took up farming. Deceased first came before the public as one of the original members of' the Man aw at u County Council, and was treasurer of that body for a year. Other public positions he held were: Member of the Manchester Bead Board for fifteen years and chairman for six years; one of thei first councillors of the Borough of Feilding: Mayor in 1882 and 1889: member or the Wanganui Education Board; member of the Palmerston North Hospital Board; member.of the committee of the Manawatu and West Coast P. and A. Association; president of the Feilding Jockey Club, Polo Club, ana Cricket Club. He was captain for several years of the Manchester Rifles and lieutenant in the Militia'.
