Weighta for the Canterbury Jookey Club's Summer Meeting are due on Friday next. The well-known horseman, A. Oliver, who recently underwent an operation in Wellington, is making satisfactory progress, and <>xpeots to be able to leave hospital 6ome time next week. Evidontly the going at Trentham on Wednesday and Saturday last was as near perfection as oould be, for a new record was established in the Cup when Pavlova ran 2min. S2seo., and' Emperador got inside lmin. 13seo. when he beat Wisebird in the City Handicap. An improvement in these figures may bs looked for at future meetings, fol the Trentham course is an ideal one, and ia speoially suited to time-making. Progeny of the imported horse Charlemagne II won eignt races on the three days of the Trentham meeting. Although Di Gama has teen handicapped for the Taranaki Cup., it is not probable that he will be brought back from Victoria to compete in the event. His owner no doubt nominated the son of Vasco for the purpose of seeing how the New Zealand handicappers would treat him. S. Eeid, often referred to, as the "Danny" Maner of the Dominion, on account of his inability to ride light and his very high percentage of wins, had one mount at Trentham, but it was a winning one. Reid has now joined forces with H. Telford; who has Jfterehau, Altoar, and Elevonia in his stables. The first-named is under offer to a Hastings sportsman, and if not Bold will he sohooled over hurdleß, as will Altcar, who showed great promise last season, but went wrong. The Takapuna Jookey Club's Summer Meeting takes place on Fjiday and Saturday next. , B. Deeley ; who rode seven winners at the Wellington meeting, has now a total of 48 winning mounts, and it looks_ certain that he will again .head the list for the 1914-15 season. The Porirua stable, which has in the past sheltered many champions, seems to have hold of three more than useful horses now in Pavlova, Gold Soult, and Jem. The first-named may be at the top of her form, but it can safely be said that the other pair are -capable of considerable improvement, End all going well they should be able to hold their own in first-olass company next season. Prosser is particularly keen on Gold Soult, but the fact that _he bred him may have a lot to do with this. Oonseulo, the dam of Gold Soult, missed to Gold Crest last season, but there is a j'earling full-brother to Gold Soult at Levin. It looks as if the new straight course at Trentham is goinc; to prove thoroughly successful, and in addition fast time will be put up on it. Three of the sixfurlongs races, whioh »ore decided on it, were run inside lmin. ;145e0., whereas; only on one occasion tad this time been bettered on the circular traok. , Handicaps for the Wanganui Oupand Flying Handicap will he deolared after the raoing at the Taranaki Jockey Club's meeting. Handicaps for the other events on the first day of the Wanganui fixture will not be declared until after the Woodville Jcckey Club's meeting. C. Emerson has decided to appeal against his suspension till March 81. The District Committee will meet on Monday next "to hear the appeal. . The New Plymouth trainer, J. O'Neill, left last Friday for Melbourne, where he intends to.settle. . Later on his Rokoby—Tea Cup yearling, and the Cyrus—Tart two-year-old filly will be sent across to Join him. FIXTURES.
