UNEMPLOYMENT

THE PROBLEM IN AUSTRALIA. ; Molbourne, January 23. In reply to a deputation of unemployed bricklayers, the PostmasterGeneral (Mr. W.. G. Spenco) expressed sympathy with tliom. He said that tho Federal Government was paying out enormous sums. "For the life of me, I cannot see why tliere is so much unemployment. It only shows that private enterprise is completely broken down. I nm satisfied that many firms are putting off men without justification. The assets of Australia aro as good as ever. The Cabinet has gone as far as it possibly could. In the_ beginning it seems as if many commercial men simply went out to grab' everything."
