SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY.
AN ASSOCIATION FORMED. There was a fair attendance of shopkeepers at a meeting held in the Central Chamber of Commerce on Thursday evening for tho purpose of forming a Saturday Half-Holiday Association. The following resolution was carried after some discussion:; — "That this_ meeting of shopkeepers and sympathisers, with the object of promoting a compulsory Saturday halfholiday form itself into an association with the object of promoting the same in the city of Wellington." The following were elected the executive of the association (pro tern) :— President, Mr. R. Pearson; secretary, Mr. A. K. Croskcry; treasurer, Mr. A. J. Humphreys; committee, Messrs. T. Forsyth, J. Kennedy J. Martin, L. M. A. Beardon, and A. Smith. On the motion of Mr. Humphries, ft was decided to call a general meeting of all supporters for Thursday evening next, and to solicit donations and subscriptions. A meeting of the Executive Committee was held subsequently.
