TAUMARANUI SEAT
PARTICULARS OF THE PETITION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Waltara, January 22. Details of the petition of Mr. C. K. Wilson, the defeated candidate for'the Taumarimui seat, are advertised in tonight's issue of the Waitara "Mail."' The petitioner alleges that while 7917 votes were declared by the returning officer there were only 7649 votes accounted for hy the marked rolls and other votes legally receivable; that 30 persons received ballot-papers at two polling places; that certain persons eligible to vote were denied the right; that others not eligible actually voted; that the names of certain persons, of whom some were aliens but naturalised, and others under legal age, were placed on the roll; that Mr. Jennings himself _ was not duly registered, because' his name only appears in the Taumarunui roll, and ho is not a resident of Taumarunui district. The petitioner also alleges irregularities at four polling booths. In consequence, it is asked that the Court (1) order a scrutiny and recount; (2) that it may be determined that Mr. Jennings had not been elected; and (3) that the election be declared void- ■ The petition will be heard at the February sitting of the Court at New Plymouth.
