5 _ The half-yearly meeting of l the Welfc lington Diocesan Council of the New 3 Zealand Catholic Federation was opened in St. Patrick's Hall yesterday. The - Very Rev. Johnson. Waipawa, Mr. Duggan. Wairoa, Mr. , Broad. i The reports made by the delegates ! were to the effect that the affairs of the Federation were in a satisfactory condition. The report of the Catholic Immigration Committee was read and adopted. It showed that much good work had been done in meeting immigrants, and in directing them to suitaols homes while awaiting employment. The establishment of a girls' hostel by the committee was considered, and referred to the executive of the council. reference was made to the great service rendered by Bishop Cleary in the interests of Catholic education, and a resolution expressing the appreciation of the council was passed unanimously. Amendments altering the constitution of the 1 Dominion Executive were carried and! sent on to the Dominion Council for approval. The question of payment of delegates' expenses was referred to the executive, with power to act. A grant was made towards the erection of a building at Trentham camp for the use of Roman Catholic members of the Forces. The council's appreciation of the services of the secretary, Mr. W. F. Johnson, was ordered to be reoorded in the minutes, and a vote of thanks to the Rev. Chairman concluded the business.
