Mitchellj Methodist minister at Lyttelton, who was camping at Ashley Gorge, with his family, was accidentally Shot in the left leg lastevening owing to a revolver which hia son was cleaning exploding.- ■ CORPORATION EMPLOYEE INJURED, Inveroarglll, January 21. A corporation employee named Neil Neilson, married, 60 years of age, was admitted to _ tho Southland Hospital', to-day suffering from a scalp wound. The _ sufferer is still unconscious, and details are unavailable, but it w believed that he has been knocked down by a motor-car. . COMMERCIAL 'TRAVELLER ■ DROWNED. Clsborna, January 21. Herbert Mac Lean, commercial travel* lor for J. Griffin and Co., of Nelson, was drowned while surf bathing on the Wai-, kanae Beaoh this afternoon. The beach fete was jn' progress, and hundreds of people were about at the time. Efforts at rescue were -unavailing, as MacLean'was not seen after he first sank. The/body has not yet been ' recovered. ■.• Another commercial/traveller, named-' Gilchrist, who. was bathing with Mac- / Lean, had a very narrow' being rescued at the last gasp. M'Lean, North Island traveller forfGriffen and Sons,- biscuit and confectionery manufacturers, who wa3 drowned at Gisbome to-day, was a native of Melbourne, where his relatives, except for two brothers in New Zealand, reside. He was 29 years of age, and had been in .the firm's employ for twelvo months. - ' Mr. M'Lean was a single man, but was shortly to have ; been married.
