1 —« I VISIT TO KIMBOLTON. j (By Telegraph-Prem Association.) r Feilding, January 19. The Hon. R. H. Rhodes, Postmasterj General, officially visited Kimbolton to- . day and opened a new post office and s public hall. He was entertained at _ luncheon by the Chamber of Commerce. Speaking at the opening of the new 3 post office, Mr. Rhodes said that the s Postal was a progressive Department. 0 They had established rural delivery in j country districts, but found motor y cycles too expensive. They were going g to get cars. Telephones were being run _ wherever useful throughout the country t wherever settlers showed a desire to j bave them. Parcels post rates had P been reduced 25 per cent 7 and the . maximum weight carried increased to 9 281b. For the year ended December _ 31 the Savings Bank had made a record. In 1907 the deposits exceeded the with- „ drawals by £1,228,000, in 1914 the de- . posits exceeded the withdrawals by 1 £1,303,000. Of the postal staff 205 had „ gone to the war, and, the Department's officers had donated over £3000 to the £ Patriotio and Relief Funds. t Mr. Rhodes expressed his admiration j for the agricultural wealth of the Kimbolton district.
