SOLDIERS' PENSIONS
EXISTING SCALE CONSIDERED •. INADEQUATE. (By ToleeraDh.-Pr<rs Asroefatfon.) Ditnedin, January 18. At to-day's meeting of the executive of the Patriotic Association, the question of the adequacy of the existing scale of pensions provided for soldiers and their dependents was briefly discussed. Mr. Fenwick stated that now they had an assurance that recruiting was going on satisfactorily, he did not think the association should abstain, from moving in the direction of having tho pensions increased. Personally, ho thought them inadequate. He was of opinion that the Government should ho urped to do something, so that men injured and the dependents of those killed should receive a reasonable allowance. The Government had never made an announcement in the matter except at South Dunedin, when Mr. Massey had declared that the Government would do the right thing. Mr. Sargood mentioned that be had clise-ussed the matter with the Minister of Defence, who' gave him an assurance that the Government had the matter. . In hand, and was awaiting certain information from the Commonwealth Government. It was finally decided to have the matter discussed at next meeting.
