r« NEW RULE DISCUSSED. In accordance with the usual custom, a mooting of bowlers taking part in the annual Dominion tuornament was held in the Chamber of Commerce, Auckland, on Tuesday evening. _ Mr.- M. Casoy, president of the Dominion Association, occupied the chair, and after ojctending a welcome to jthe visiting bowlers, stated the meeting was open for the discussion of matters relative to and having for their object tho betterment of bowling. ; Tho meeting was largely attended, about 200 being prosent, and tho questions brought up were freely discussed. The first question was in regard to the expenditure on entertainment. Mr. A. M. Brydcn, secretary, said that the council had done its best in the matter of refreshments, but that tho entertainment programme would exceed tho amount received from entrance fees. Dissatisfaction was expressed by visiting howlers with tho system of players taking their own luncheons initiated at Dune din last year, and followed at this tournament. After much discussion tho matter dropped without a resolution being carried. A long discussion followed 011 tho two-fcet-on-the-mat question. The speakers expressed their views very freely on the advantags and disadvantages of the new rule. A proposal by Mr. C. J. Sclmauer, Onehunga, "that this meeting; recommends tlie Dominion Council to repeal the present rule requiring players to keep both feet on the mat when delivering a bowl, and revert to tho old method," was seconded by Mr. Crowley, Timranga, and supported b.r Messrs'. J. JJrackenridge, J. U. Webb, Wellington, and J. Ballinger, Wellington. Among the opponents of the motion were Mr. L Cohen, anganui, and Mr. E. J. Hill, Wellington. The motion was declared carried by 11 |ar"o maiority. . A further motion, proposed by Mr. W. Coltmaii. Dcvonjort "that before tho council adopts the 'previous resolution a plebiscite bo taken of all the bowlers 111 New Zealand" was carricd unanimously. _ The question of howl-testing was raised but after a short discussion the mating cUeiotvod without coming to a decision on tho wattex.
