Mr. A. S. Biss, of the firm of Badham and Biss, left on a business trip to Sydney by tho Moeraki last evening. Police Inspector Cruiokshank, who is leaving Timaru on promotion to tho position of inspector at Auckland, has been given highly complimentary and cordial farewells by tho force, Masons, tho Mayor, and council, and other officials. Last niglit a representative meeting of oitizens made a presentation of a purse of sovereigns to Mrs. Cruickshank—Press Association. Mr. Hans Fay, Vice-Consul for Norway in Melbourne, is paying a visit to Wellington. He is visiting all tho Consular representatives in Now Zealand of Norway. Signor A. P. Truda, conductor of tho King's Theatre Orchestra, has resigned that position in order to confine himself I to his teaching connection. ! The Rev. James Cumming, of Khandallah, will arriv.e in Wellington this morning by tho 'Maori.' Jlr. Cumming attended the Gore Biblo Class Conference, and from there proceeded to Invercargill. After a brief visit to his old parish at Waikiwi, he spent a number of days in Duuediu and also a few days in Timaru. The members of the Julius Knight Company were passengers for Sydney by the Moeraki, -which sailed last evening. The Rev. W. A. Evans will leave for Christchurch on Monday evening to attend the University Senate. Mr. Ernest Drummond, a well-known settler 'at Riwaka, died on Thursday night, at tho age of fifty-two. The deceased, ivho was tho eldest son of Mr. Alex. Drummond, one of tho pioneers of Riwaka, bad been ill with pneumonia for some timo past. Ho has left a widow and twelve young children. Mr. C. J. Nathan, of tho firm of Joseph Nathan and Co., has consented to become a candidate for tlio Mayoralty of Palmorston North. The Commissioner of the Salvation Army and Sirs'. Hodder, whq will bo accompanied By the chief secretary and Mrs. Powley, leave next week for Auckland and district,, wliero they will con- 1 duet meetings. Among tho towns they will visit will be Rotorua, Tnuranga, Waihi, Paeroa, Thames, and Hamilton. Brigadjer Bray will participate in the Auckland meetings. * Messrs. J. R. Grey, P. B. Eastham, and 0. K. Steele, who for the past fortnight havo been cruising in the Marlborough Sounds in the yacht Siren, will return to Wellington this week-end. Sergeant-Major J. Morrison, who was in charge of the Feilding Group of Cadets and Assistant Adjutant at Waugamii for two years previous to going to Samoa, from which place he has just returned, has been ordered to rejoin bis regiment, the Grenadier Guards, in England. The Mayor of Hastings, Mr. W. Hart, left Napier for Wellington yestorday morning on business connected with the raising of a loan for £40,000. Mr. and Airs. La Mcjrtc, of Crissage, intend to leave for England shortly, with a view to settling there, says our Napier correspondent.
