MASTERTON NOTES
The Mastertpii County CoUiicil has a debit balance of £5477 16s. Id. on its general account. The council is endeavouring to extend the limits of its overdraft, so that it may be able to meet its engagements Until the current year'B rates are received.
A. Masterton trooper, writing to a friend from Port Said, states that only sixteen horses out of 735 were lost on the journey from New Zealand to Egypt, The Mastertoil County Council has set up a sub-committee to report upon the advisability of adopting the provisions of the National Provident Amendment _ Act in reference to the Superannuation of council employees. The Masterton Amateur Club got off two events on the park oval on Tuesday evening. A 100 yds. handicap event was won by F. Kilminster, and an 880 yds. handicap by W. Gimmell. A meeting of the Building Committee of the Masterton Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening, when plans aud specifications for the new municipal buildings were finally dealt with. It is anticipated that tenders for the buildings will be called noxt month. Councillor 0. E. Cockburn-Hood has been elected chairman of the Finance Committee of the Masterton County Council.
Rifluman S. MareUzi, who has. been a successful competitor at many of the Trentham riffs meetings, and who represented New Zealand at Bisley on a recent occasion, is joining the relieving force that is being dispatched .to Samoa.
