In an extract published. by "The Queen" from private correspondence received from British Columbia, the following glimpse of the Amoricanpeople's attitude to Britain in the war is given. "Perhaps you will be interested in the attitude of the United States," proceeds the .writer. '.'.Well, I. will' give you an instance. Before the outbreak of war the Navy Yard at Bremerton, in Washington, had two submarines under construction for the, Chilian Government. Our Premier, Sir Richard M'Bride, wired an offer for them, and the United States Naval authorities turned the boats over to us. Of course it was made known publicly that we purchased .the boats before war was declared. Was it not fortunate that we were just in time? The U.S.A. also lent us American sailors to man the submarines. The State of California is going to make a colony for Belgian refugees and transport them from Europe free of charge and settle them on farms. • Thousands of Americans have offered their services to the Militia in Canada. In fact, if necessary, we could send an expeditionary force of five hundred thousand just as easily as one of fifty thousand. The groat Yukon Territory is sending a few hundred packed men, armed, equipped, etc., by private individuals, and 'most of the Canadia,n provinoes are doing the same, in addition to the regular force called for by tho Dominion and Imperial Government." Jfr. John S. Swan, architect, invites tenders for additions to a building in Brandon Street. Mr. E. Loveday, Wanganni, invites tenders for the purchase of his drapery .and clothing stock. Messrs. Dalgcty Co., Ltd., will hold a stock sale at Levin to-morrow morning-
