ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
THE DEATH AT THE GAOL. The coronial inquiry into ihe death of Daniel Murray, who died at the Wellington Gaol last Thursday while on remand there for curative treatment on a charge of helpless drunkenness, was concluded before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., yesterday afternoon. Dr. Gilmer who conducted a post-mortem examination said that deceased had died from valvular disease of the heart and from the state of that organ he (deceased) may have died at any moment. Constable Melville stated that when deceased was admitted to the gaol he was in a.state of collapse. ' After hearin; the doctor's evidence he knew that this state was due to the condition of his heart and not to drunkenness. The Coroner returned a verdict that deceased died from valvular disease of the heart and that everything that was possible had been done for him by the prison authorities. Mr. J. J. H'Grath was present at the inquiry on behalf of deceased's relatives. BURIED AT SEA. Te Horo, January 13. ] At the inquest on the body of Henry Hodgo, who was drowned while fishing with his son on Te Horo beach, a verdict of accidentally' drowned while fishing was returned. The body of the son has not yet been found. Search parties are out. BURNED TO DEATH. Rotorua, January 13. Ah old Maori named Ihaia te Waru was found burned to death in his 'whare at To Paraki. 28 miles from Rotorua, yesterday afternoon. He was believed to bo 100 years old and had been a follower of To Kooti. GORED BY A BULL. Hawora, January 13. Mr. Thomas Ecclesfield, an old and highly-respected settler, was gored by a bull on his farm on Tuesday' afternoon. He died later from the injuries received.
