ST. THOMAS'S FLOWER SHOW.

The sixteenth annual show of St. Thomas's Horticultural Society was held in St. Thomas's Schoolroom yesterday afternoon and evening, the opening ceremony being performed by Mrs. Coleridge. Owing to the dry weather and the winds the show did not equal that of last year, but nevertheless there were some - excellent exhibits, particularly among the .vegetable class. The sweet peas and carnations appeared to have suffered less than any and some interesting specimens were ■to bo found amoug the latter. The judges were: Miss Poole (for the decorative classes), Messrs. A. and 0. Petterson, T, Smith, Nichol, and W. H. P. Barber, and the secretary was Mr. Burton. The funds of tlie show go towards tie church funds, and stalls for the sale of cut flowers (Mrs. Knowles and assistants), pot plants (Mr 9. Croll), and sweets (Mrs. Burton) no doubt added materially to the funds. Mrs. French and Miss Ballachy also with assistants Were irt.charge of the tea-room. The champion bloom of the show was a carnation, "Mrs. M. A. Stewart," exhibited by Mrs. Russell, Who was successful in carrying off several firsts. .Mrs. Holder closely _ rivalled her. Cineraria: Mr. G Startup. Foliage plants, best fern: W. Howan. Other foliage: Mrs. Startup. Best collection: Mr. Foxwell.
