ANNIVERSARY DAY.

DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. In., con junction with the New ZeS• land ~ Natives' Association, the Wellington' Early Settlers' Association held a meeting last evening for. the purpose of furthering arrangements in connection with tho carnival; which is to be hold at Newtown Park on Anniversary Day. Tho function will celebrate the diamond jubilee of the city of Wellington. The question of holding a procession through tho streets to the park was discussed.' It was stated that further offers of help had been received in this direction. The Wellington Gas Company will bo represented with a display showing the methods of cooking in 1810 in comparison with those of the present day. The Butchers' Union have '* also signified their intention of assisting, as well as members of Willoughby's Dramatic Company. A feature of the carnival will be running ovents under the jurisdiction of the Amateur Athletic Association, and exhibitions of poi dances, hakis, and. tugs-of-war by tho Otnki Maoris. A cricket match between Maoris and pakehas has also been suggested. The West Coast Association will assist with' a display depicting mining in the early.days 011 tho West Coast. _lt has been ' I decided to hold a concert in tho even- ; ins.
