PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
WELLINGTON COMMITTEE MEETS. The committee of the Sooiety for the Prevention of Cruelty to. Animals met last night. Mr. V. R. Meredith was in the chair. , On. the motion of Mr. Jamieson it was decided to appoint Mr. Martin J. Kilgour to a vacancy on the committee. In his report to the sooiety, Captain Henry mentioned various cases of cruelty which he had discovered and remedied since the Gociety last met. The president of the. society ordered a prosecution to be made in respect of a horse alleged to be unfit for work and suffering pain, and which had: been worked by a City bakery firm. Subscriptions were received and 5 , acknowledged as follow:—"Macbush," Huddart, Parker and Co., Ltd., and E. W. Mills and Co., Ltd., £1 Is. each; "Rata" and "Druid," £1 each; Lawrence and Hanson and G, J. Page, 10s. each; A. H. Cockayne, Thos. Brown, Ltd., B. Anderson and Co., Ltd., W. H. Nash, G. H. Scales, E. Morris, jun., Willinmson, and 0. Hill and Sons, ss. eaoh; J.D.C., 35., Friend, 2s. 6d wtotal, £8 Bs. 6d. "
