FIRES.
. . a AN OUTBREAK IN CUBA STREET. Fire completely gutted the upper story and damaged the contents of Duncan and Macintosh's premises in Cuba ' Street last night. Tha brigade received the call to the outbreak from one of the street alarms at 9.42 p.m., and it'then had a fairly good hold and threatened to develop info a big outbreak. Good and prompt work, however, was responsible for getting the outbreak under (control. The upper story of the premises/used as Btock rooms and work rooms, was completely gutted by fire, the contents of the ground floor.being damaged by water. The building, whiob. extends from 108 to 112 Cuba Street, is used in connection with Duncan and Macintosh's drapery and millinery business. The building is insured for £2000 in the Atlas Office, and the stock and fittings for £2000 in the same office and £2050 in the Alliance Office. It is not known .what caused the outbreak. When the proprietors left the premises some time after 9 p.m. everything was in order. The fire originated in the stock room on ( the first floor. HOUSE PARTLY 1 DESTROYED AT MIRAMAR. r A five-roomed house situated at Rimu Street, Miramar, was partly destroyed by fire at 7.80 p.m. yesterday. The house is owned by Mrs. Ewing and occupied by Mr. J. L. Haseldene. The furniture was covered in the Atlas Office and tho building in the Phoenix Office, but the amounts are not known. The Miramar Volunteer Fire Brigade again demonstrated its usefulness in doing very smart work in suppressing the out. break.
