KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL

THE TRAM SERVICE. ' Tramway matters, water, and drainage were the principal subjects of discussion at the-monthly meeting •of the Karori Borough Council last night, when the Mayor (Mr. W. T. Hildreth) presided. •. Correspondence received included !v letter from the, Town Clerk,' Wellington, covering the City Engineer's report on the proposed new drainage scheme to connect the area known as Beautiful Karori (as far south as the school) with the City drainage systm, via Kaiwarra. The report estimated the cost of the scheme at £5590, allowing for'present requirements and possible future extensions. The Mayor pointed out that before tlie scheme could be proceeded with it would be necessary to ascertain to what extent the scheme would' .pledge the ratepayers. A meeting of ratepayers would then be called in order that the proposal might be placed before them.; He moved, ''That the City be asked to advise what rate would be required to be pledged, and approximately what amount would be required to be levied for the present." This was seconded by Councilor Skegg and carried. Councillor Henderson, who commented on the satisfactory nature of the City Engineer's report, considered that the whole matter should be referred to a special committee to' deal with and report to the council. Tho information asked for in the Mayor's, resolution should be placed before the committee as soon as available. • On the motion of Councillor Henderson, the council decided to set up the suggested, committee, consisting of the Mayor, Councillots Boyes, Davies, Skegg.- and the mover.

As the outcome/of the council's persistent requests for improvements in the tram service to, Karon, the City Tramway Board of Management suggested that the traffic could be handled satisfactorily if the service from Courtenay Place between 4.57 p.m. and' 6.32 p.m. were rearranged by cars leaving Courtenay Place at the following times:—To the Cemetery, 4.57 p.m.j Cemetery, 5.2 p.m.; Karon, 5.2.p.m.; Northland, 5.14' p.m.; Karori, 5.17 p.m.; Cemetery, 5.30 p.m.; Karon, 5.32 p.m.; Karorj, 5.47 p.m.; Cemetery,. 6 p.m.; Karon,- 6.2 p.m.; Karori,"6.l7 p.m.; Karori/ 6.32 p.m. Tho Tramway Board.stated further that it was intended to fall in with the suggestion of the Karori Council as regarded the cars to the Gardens only, these cars to be run ahead of tho cars to Karori in every case. The Tramways Committee of the council reported, in connection with the abovo, that at a meeting of the committee on' Monday last the following resolutions were carried :— "<l.) (3.) That in ,the event of ..the. foregoing resolutions Being adopted.'.an'.advertisement to. that effect be inserted in tho newspapers.'? " '•' •" .'
