NOTES FROM RICCARTON. ABOUT HOESES BOOKED FOB TRENTHAM. (By Tolegraiili.-fipecW oorrefluonaont.l Christchurch, January 11. The "Looker-On," writing in the "Evening News" of some of the horses engaged at the Wellington Meeting, says-.— Autumnus and AVisebird with lightweights up wero given a strong working gallop on the grass this morning. The pair were under a strong pull all the way, and finished together. Autumnus, whose firal gallop it was for some days, walked awaj sound, and so did the filly. First Glance made her first appearance on Jtho track since her successful trip south. She is carrying more muscle than ever before. She was givon half-pace work, Emperador was cantered round to tho furlong post and sprinted. Then ho trotted round and galloped another four furlongs. On neither occasion was he asked to do his best. He galloped in a very resolute manner, and looks a better horse now than when he went to the Manawatu meeting. Flying Start, who is also booked to visit Trenthani, was let run along for a few furlongs so that he might find his feot on the grass. R. J. Mason is leaving for Trentham tonight with Emperador, Nones, and Banksia. Thoy have all been responsible for some uico work of late, and Nones won the Dunedin Stakes in a very brilliant fashion last October, but went right off colour afterwards. She has been showing improved form lately. Banksia showed fair racing form at Bllerslie. Nones, who is very keen, was' sprinted twice to-day. Slw went with great dash. Findhorn, with a light-weight up, and Fabrikoff, carrying something near "Bst. 41b., were given a rousing 6ix furlongs together. Fabrikoff got the best of the start and got ihe inside running, but Findhorn Boon joined him and they ran practically together to the post. Both horses were ridden out with hands and heels, and finished well. Samisen and Oriande moved off at a canter, and were racing over the last few furlongs. Both galloped pleasingly. Samisen is a doubtful starter on the first day of the Wellington meeting. Treadfire was given half-pace work. Jle will have a gallop to-morrow. • Banksia was sprinted. She can muster plenty of pace. Peg and Honesty were put together over six furlongs. They were not fully extended, and both of them rolled into their work in a very taking way. Meltchikoff was given good easy pacing. 'AH.going well he will make a. trip to Trentham. , Encore has been returned to the paddock, as he has been showing signs of his old Itrouble. He never got over the fall he had on the tan some time ago. HUTT TROTTING CLUB'S HANDICAPS For the Hutt Valley Trotting Club's Meeting the following handicaps have been declared:— .
