MAUNGANUI ARRIVES BACK
THREE INVALIDED TROOPERS ON BOARD. (By Tele«rai>li.—Press Association.' Dunedin, January 11. Three invalided troopers returned by the Maunganui, which arrived at Port Chalmers to-day. One of the trio, Trooper Kelk, of Auckland, was incapacitated through getting his hand badly injured while trying to stop a vicious horso from pawing him-. . The first time tho horse rushed him, Troopor Kolk gave it a smashing blow on tho mouth, but as ho was backing away to avoid a second rush the animal sent him flying against tho stanchions. Trooper Kelk fears his hand may have to bo amputated. Information gleaned from various unofficial sources indicates that the arrival of the troops in Egypt caused no fuss, but was apparently unexpected. Tho mon wont into camp a few miles out of Cairo. Out of about 200 horses shipped by the Maunganui. 195 were landed in'excellent condition. Yesterday was a red-letter day at tho Avondale camp of Maori contingentors, nays a Press Association telegram from Auckland. Sir Joseph Ward, Sir James Carroll, Colonel A. M. Myers, Mr. F. Maguire, Mr. George Hall, Mr. Donnelly, and others, paying a visit to the camp. Tho A Company was at Penrose Rillo B-ango for muskotry instruction. The B Company, which comprises most of tho East Coast Maoris, was engaged in field practice- at tho camp. Tho visitors wero recoived by Captain W, 0. Ennis, Adjutant of the Maori Contingent, and Captain Titt, Officor Commanding. Tho 13 Company performed evolutions by platoons, and also carried out rillo exorcises, tho whole of llieir work showing a smartness and finish that reflected infinite credit on their ofiii'ors and instructors.
