WANGANUI HARBOUR
SATISFACTORY FINANCES. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent) Wanganul, January 9. At the Wanganui Harbour Board meeting last evening, the chairman, announced that the revenue for the year had increased by £1174 over that for the previous year, ' of which £800 was dear profit. The board's total surplus for 1914 will be about £5000, all of which will be available for paying interest on the loan. The continual increase in the revenue, the ohairman added, justified the prediction he' had made at the time of the Harbour Bill controversy—that in all probability the board would not need to levy any rate to meetitho loan charges. Word has been received by the board that tlie new cranes being built at Homo for tho harbour works have been commandeered by the Imperial Government, , and the contractors had to start building new ones, thus accounting for the delay in delivery. A letter was al6o received from the dredgemaster, stating that the work of building the board's now dredge at Paisley, Scotland, was progressing satisfactorily. Tho harbour engineer reported that tho work of building a wall for the floating basin at Caetlocliff had begun. The delivery of the stone would, liowover, bo doiayed owing to a big slip at tho quarry burying one of the cranes, and necessitating several days' work to clear it.
