The greater part of yesterday, was Rccupied by the Federal Prime Minister (.the Right Hon. Andrew inslier) in looking up some of his old friends. To-day he will confer'with Ministers of the Crown on matters likely ; to be or mutual interest to the Dominion and Commonwealth, and will bo entertained at 1 p.m. at a Ministerial Mr. Fisher will visit Trentham _ camp in the afternoon, and will leave in; the evening for the south in continuance of his tour of the Dominion.

His Honour Mr. Justice Hosking, who has been staying in Ohristchurch for some days, has left for Mount Cook.

The New Zealand long-service and good-oonduot medal has . been conferred on Sergeant J. A.. Head, Royal N.Z. Artillery; 2nd Class Master Gunner E. H. Satde, Royal N.Z. Artillery; Quartermaster-Sergeant Artificer J. 0. P. Southgate, Royal N.Z. Artillery; Sergeant R.-P. Morgan; Royal r>.Z. 'Artulery; and Quartermaster-Sergeant Farrier Robert Irvine, Royal N.Z. Ai•tillery.

Chief-Detective Boddam, of New Plymouth, has taken up duty in Wellington as successor to Chief-Detective Broberg, who igoes to Dunedin as Sub-In-spector. Detective Andrews, of the .Lambton Quay police staff, has returned to- 'Wellington from Greymouth, where he has been relieving' for some sis weeks.

Mr. Harry Moss, manager for Johnston and Co., who has been slowly recovering from a severe motor accident met with in Napier, .is .expected to return to . Wellington about the end of this week. .

The Mastorton A. and P. Association cn Saturday-last passed k resolution congratulating Sir James Wilson upon the honour recently conferred on him. 'The "Farmers' Union Advocate," in referring to the knighthood conferred upon the president of the union, observes that "the honour which haß fallen upon Mr. Wilson, although a peisonal title,; is an honour done to the farming community and to the organisation of which he is the honoured president. As the official, mouthpiece of the union, wo feel that the union shares the honour which ■ His Majesty has been •pleased to confer upon our president, and we oompliment the Prime Minister, through -whom the recommendation .would go, on tho recognition of the splendid services rendered to agriculture, the backbone of the Dominion, by Mr. Wilson."

Advice has been received that Mr.. A. !A. Corrigan, of Wellington, has arrived in America, oh his return journey to New Zealand.,

At a meeting of Southland Hosf Hal Charitable Aid Board, held on riday. Dr. Stanley E. Brown was appointed (subject to the Minister's approval) to the position of medical superintendent at the Southland Hospital, a position made vacant through Dr. Barclay's rempval to Wellington. There were nine applicants for the position.' Dr. Brown has beon acting in a temporary position sinco Dr. Barclay's departure, and prior to going to Invercargill was in charge of the Wangamii Hospital for a short period.

Mr. F. W. ; Johnston, president of tho Canterbury Automobile Association, and Dr. Simpson, vice-president, have returned to Cnristchurch from a motor trip through part of the North Island.

Mr. Walter Dixon, who has been apTk'inted to the charge of the Auckland branch of the Colonial Mutual Lifo Assurance Office, was welcomed by the menjbers of tlie staff on Friday. Mr. E. 5 1 . Wray, agency manager for New Zealand, who has-been temporarily obarge at Auckland, has returned to : Wellington.
