AN INDEPENDENT NAVY
GOVERNMENT POLICY APPROVED (By Mejropli—Vreeo iSBooIatlon) Wanganui, January 8. If there is one thing mqre than another of which the Hon. Andrew Fisher appears to be proud, it is the Austra- ' lian policy of an' independent Navy Speaking about it during his brief so- ' journ in Wanganui to-day Mr. Fisher was careful to define tho meaning of "independent" as applied to the Aus- ' kalian Fleet._ He used the words, he said, merely in the sSnse in which we, as a race, loved our individual independence. It was a wise policy to own and control our own Navy, but at the same time ho made it clear that such , a _ fleet must be irrevocably associated , with the Motherland. - Mr. Fisher warmly approves of. the naval policy of Mr. Massey's Government in so far as it is in line with the policy of Australia, and both in tho course of his | speech in reply to addresses of wel- ; come at' Aramoho, and in conversation ! with those who accompanied him to Marton, he did not hesitate to express the opinion that it was our 'duty to boldly shoulder our responsibilities 1 in regard to this important matter.
