1 rr„l? er - e was , a ,,' ar ß°. fcfd representative gathering at -(foe Burlington last night to farewell Sub-Inspector Sheehan, who has been transferred from Wellington to Timaru.v The gathering, which was organised by tlio Oeltic Club, was presided over by Mr: George Winder those present mcludod Police-Inspeotor Hendrey and Mr Skeltou (chairman of tho Auckland Celtic Club). The toast ot the guest of the evening was proposed by Mr. J. J. M'Grath, gubliispeotor, Sheehan replying in a most interesting speech. Other'speeches were made eulogistic of Mr. Sheehan's fine qualities both in his official "and unofficial positions. The erening passed most and was interspersed mth .musical selections given by Mr; W. M Laughlin s orchestra, and • vocal items rendered by Messrs. Countenay I' J - Carr, O. Footo, and C. Heckmott. Mr. Sheehan leaves to take Up his new position on Monday next..
