DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBAATIONS
FOR ANNIVERSARY DAY. In connection with tie Diambntl Jubilee celebrations in Wellington on January ii 2, a meeting, held in the Foresters' Hall last night, was attended by representatives of the New Zealand Natives' Association,' the Early Settlers' Association, and the West Coasters' Association. Upwards of 60 people were present, the chair being occupied by Mr. D. M'Laren, who in his opening remarks expressed the hope that a derterinined offort would be made to secure the presence of His Excellency the Governor (the, Ea.rl of Liverpool) at the celebrations. Among the, correspondence read at the meeting was a letter stating that it, would be impossible to get a troupe of Maori girls to take part in the as many of them did not care ,to do bo on account of the fact that their relatives were going to the war. ... ' Mr. 0. M'lntyre, oiip of the joint secretaries, gave an outline' of _wha<t had been proposed by way of display on Anniversary Day. He had received word from the Town Clerk stating that the executive had been granted the use of Newtown Park for'tho day, and the Town Hall for the night. The proceedings would coiiimenoe at 11 a.m. with a procession, in which it was intended to contrast the conditions of 1840 with those of 1915, indicating the progressthat had been made and comparing the friendly spirit existing between pakeha and Maori to-day, with the hostility obtaining 75 years ago. The _ .West Coasters' Association had promised to help with tableaux illustrating the conditions under which the pioneerß lifed on the goldfields in the .'sixties. ■ : An invitation had also been issued, through the Trades and Labour Council,. to any labour organisation caring to assist. It was 1 hoped to give the early settlers and New Zealanders generally '■'the time of their lives" at the park during the day and to conclude with a concert and coitversazione at the Town Hall in the evening. Mr. C. J. Pfaff, secretary of the West Coasters' . Association, stated that that body had already met for the purpose of considering the part' to be taken in tho celebrations and that arrangements were well in hand. Various suggestions Iwere iput (forward as to the different forms of entertainment to be provided and committees were then elected as follow:— Procession Committee: Messrß. R. A. Wright, M.P., W. Wills, C. J. Pfaff, L. George, and L. M'Kenzie. Grounds and Gates • Committee: Messrs. G. Frost, C. M. Luke, W. E. Moore, H. E. Smith, and J. Meyrick. Side-shows Committee: Mrs. Mooro 'and Messrs. Driller, Windsor, Day, and Edwards. Musical Committee: Mrs. Redward, Mrs. Moore, and Messrs. D. M'Laren, L. M'Kenzie, H M'Coinish, 0. T. Morgan, and Dr. Normal Hales, with power to add to tho number. Prize Committee: Messrs. C. E. Morris, J. E. Jenkinson, Cook, Ltindon, D. M'lntyfo, C. M. Luke, and H. A. W. M'Kenzie. Reception Committee: Mesdanios J. P. Luke, Redward, Edwards, Gajvih, Nelson, Lundon, H. A. W. M'Kenzie, E. Flighty, and 'L. George, and Messrs. J. P. Luke, J. E. Jenlvinsoii, J. Flyger, and C. M. Luko. F,xccutive Committee: Two representatives from every one of the three associations, and the chairmen of 'the various committees.' Mr. L. M'Kenzie was appointed to wait upon the ftmateitr athletic authorities in connection with the sports and to report to the next meeting. It was resolved to ask Dr. Elizabeth Pliitts-Mills to act as judgo for tlio baby show and to invite tho Plunket [r.urkoa to assist- ,
