Mr. Tau Henare, the Northern Maori member, stated to a "Star": reporter to-da.y that he lad not-been eleoted as a supporter of the Right Hon. W. F. Massey of Sir J. G. 1 Ward. He stood as ah Independent, and contested the ; .election without .the help , of ' either party, and had been returned pledged only to do liis best for his constituents. "I'm a dark horsey" he said, "and absolutely no-one knows what I will do • with my vote." At present there is a movement ,to f upset the election on account of the alleged bungling of the returning offij cer. If the appeal succeeded he. would 1 again be- a candidate, as '.'an ' Independent. He gave tho chiefs the j opportunity of discussing the position s so that they might, indicate -.their:'at- . • titude, but, as they/were-evenly divided he was left now to pursue his own course.' ,
