He was 59 years'of age. • \ The death of MS\ John Hyndmanf Russell'occurred at Levin on Tuesday, after an illness extending over several months. Deceased was born in Staf-. fordshire, in England, and emigrated to Australia, going to the BaUarafr goldfields. He arrived at Dunedin in, 1860, and took part in tho Gabriel's Gullj; rush; then went to tlio West Coast, where he worked in tho same mine, as'■ the late Mr. E. J. Seddon, and the twc' became close friends. The late Mr<| Eussoll arrived in Wellington in 1874, and took part in the Parihaka eanwl paign. Ho went to Levin m 180G andj settled there. ■ .
