' ——~H>- —: —' During December six births, fiye marriageSj.and three deaths were registered in Carterton. On Sunday afternoon a fire broke out in tlio flax swamp at Todgood's_ mill, Longbush. Aided by a strong wind it was soon evident that the' hrb ireuld bo a very serious one, despite efforts-to confine it to ono quarter. Practically the whole of tlio 400 acres wero destroyed. Besides throwing a liumber of moil out of employment, the estimated loss will amount to £20,000. ' At To Wharau ou Friday last Mr. Bobert L. M'Kinstry was married to Miss Margarette A. Gaibraith.
