Barnes (Ruy Lopez).—Barnes lost a pawn in' tho opening, but afterwards gained the' exchange of a rook for a bishop. Not finished. Barnes has now 1 three adjourned games on hand. Mara v. Buckett (French Defence).—. In tho ending Buckett had a queen and a rook against a quoon, but Mara forced a-; draw by a perpetual check, on the 45 th more. Dodds v. Griorson (Ruy Lopez).— Griorson won a pawn in tho opening, but afterwards did not play up to form. Dodds brought off a smart finish, his opponent resigning .at move 41. C.' E. Fox v. Severn© (Queen's Gambit Declined). —Severne won the exchange, and subsequently a piece. Fox resigned on tho 31st. move. ' _ Hicks v. Hill (Giuoco Piano),—Hill lost a rook for a bishop, through a miscalculation, and surrendered at move 28. B. G. Fox v. Kplling.—Kelling scor'ed by default. Pleasants, a bye. O ' Ninth Round.—C« E.
