Betty was milking the cow when the mad bull tore over the meadow. Betty did, not stir, but continued milking. _ObBervera who had run into safety saw to their astonishment that the bull stopped dead within a few yards of the maid and cow, turned round, and went away sadly. "Weren't you afraid P Why did he Tun away ?" asked everyone of Betty. "He gjot scared," said Betty. "This cow is his mother-in-law." During an election that took place in a certain town in Yorkshire a wellknown man, taking his little son with him, was going to the polling-station to give his vote. On the way he met a friend going on the same errand as himself, with whom be got into conversation. After a very exciting argument the two men came to blows. The poor lad was very much frightened, and, seeing his father was getting the worst of it, suddenly called out to him: "Hit him in the watch, father; that'll cost him something I"
