Foeman, thefull-brothor to Postillion, winnor of the Maiden race at Marton, is exactly like his - relative, and gallops in the same manner. He is green yet, and promises to see a much better day. _ Nominations for the Hutt Valley Trotting Club's meeting close at 9 o'clock to-night with the club's secretary, Mr N . R. W. Short, Box 4, Petone. Jockoy C. Emerson is remaining in the north, and will be riding at the Whangarei meeting on Thursday and Friday. Sinapis pulled up lame after racing in the Amckland Cup, and could not be started again at' the meeting. Many of the best handicap horses havo become sore as the result of" the hard going experienced during the holiday meetings, and trainers generally are wishing for rain to 6often the tracks. ■ During an interval between the races at Tauherinikau on Saturday, many prominent sportsmen met in the stewards' room 1 to drink the health of the president, Mr. W. E. Bidwill, whose colt Reputation had won the Great Northern Derby. Mr. J. T. M.- Hornsby, M.P., proposed the toast, which was drunk with musical honours. Mr. Bid will replied thanking _ the_ proposer for the compliment paid him. From all accounts the Marton Cup was a false-run race. Master Lupin and Byron secured such a break on the field that when the other riders realised the situation it was too late to overhaul the leaders. -
Jem has been sold' ouifc of the Porirua stables, and is now owned by a Hawke's Bay sportsman. The price .paid was dOOgns. ■ Ararat was made a very warm favourite for the Hack Flying Handicap at Marton on Saturday, but Gold Soult won comfortably at the finish. There was some merit in the win of the brown horse,, for he got chopped out badly at the half-diatance, and then came round the outside and won easily.
Tha two-year-old events at the Wingatui and Oamaru meetings were all won by different horses. Consign,' the full-' sister to Specialform, seemed to be the unlucky animal, as she filled third place on threa occasions. , An excellent programme has been dTawn up by the Foxton Racing Club for its annual meeting, which is, to_ be held on January 22 and 23. Good prizemoney is to ,be given in all the events, and as the first grade horses will all be engaged at Trentham, owners of other animals will no doubt nominate in good numbers.' 'The club has thirty loose-boxes for the use of patrons. " Returned visitors from Ellerslie say that Diad's Hero was the unlucky horse in the Railway Handicap at the recent meeting. Going down the back he was last, but at the finish' he was close up' to the placed horses. His win in the County Handioap on Saturday was fully anticipated.
