BOWLING TOURNEY

THE WELLINGTON CENTRE'S GATHERING PLAY IN COATS AND UMBRELLAS It takes a good deal of weather to stay the course of a bowling tourney as waß exemplified on the local greens yesterday morning, when the Wellington Bowling Centre's annual tournament was commenced in the rain. It was true that the rain- was not very heavy, but throughout the morning it fell persistently in a misty form, wetting enough for the majority of the players to requisition overcoats and umbrellas for-use between the times they were actually bowling. The rain stiffened up the greens, which have been very keen during the past week, and made the end of .the draw very dead. Right through the first round players had to use their cloths to dry the bowls, and many a bad one was put down through neglecting that precaution. At midday the rain ceased, and for the greater part of the afternoon the iconditions were not at all bad though, the sky overhead was heavily overcast. Light : misty' rain, also fell between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., but fortunately not heavy enough to prevent the completion of the day's programme, which consisted of thTee gamos of 21 heads each.

The- secretarial duties wore efficiently performed by Mr. J. J. Roberts, whose arrangements were very complete, and the green Empires attended to their duties in .a satisfactory manner, " the results being received from the various greens as eoon as possible after the completion of each round. The results of the various games were as follow.— ' ■ ". ! FIRST .BOUND. A SECTION—WELLINGTON GREEN. Hill (To Hiwi) beat Snaddon (Victoria), 17—15?
