SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY.

, The last concert of tho year at the Sailors Friend Society' was a success in every way, the large audience enjoying the seasonable programme provided in the form of vocal, instrumental, and elocutionary items. The competitions were markedly keen. The performers were.Madames Mueller and Miller,, and., the Misses Mueller, V. Robmsony -Harvey, Bannan, and Messrs: Howett, Hanldri, Bates. 'Robinson, Boyd, Thompson, Ireland, and Ewirigton (R.M.S. ■ Mamari), ;.and' Master C. Sherwood. Supper was served at the close and the donor and the performers, were thanked. Then oame. a quiet smoke and chat, and then all adjourned, to-the church abovo for the watch-night service. Mr. Moore, missioned spoke\ on "1914-1915." The hymns wore sung with: much feeling. Miss Shaw was at the* organ. On A New Year's Day, despite the wet, a glorious day was passed by the men at tho picnic held in the spacious Institute under the' guidance of the missionor, assisted by tho workers. The fun was fast and furious as game, succeeded game that was novel • and refreshing. Tho prize-winners were: — Mrs.. Copice, Miss Scothard,'-. Messrs. Manning, Lane, Scott, Gibbs, Brown, •Marton, and Darby. At 8 p.m. a concert was provided by a number- of friends, it was given beforo a largo audience. The choruses were a stirring feature. Thoso who took-part were Misses Dodd, Stairman, Messrs. Sign, Manning, Ireland, and Master Sherwood. The performers were accorded a hearty vote- of thanks at the conclusion. Several .very fine gramaphone records were given by Mr, Mason.
