CHRISTMAS BUSINESS
'AT THE G.P.O. The following comparative statement of business done at the G.P.O. during the four days preceding Christmas gives some idea of the volume of the work done by the Post Offico staff at this season: — 1914. ' 1913. , £ • .£ Stamp sales 0,643 5,034 Bags and , hampers handled 13,316 12,298 Telegrams forwarded ... 24,916 26,225 Telegrams received .... 24,649 28,223 Telegrams transmitted 36,947 36,798 'Tho business in tire Wellington office was considerably greater in every single department'than that of any other office in New, Zealand. In Auckland, for instance, stamp sales realised only £4242, and other figures were proportionately lower than Wellington totals. In Christcliureli the return from sales of stamps was £3181, in Dunedin £2339, in Wanganui £1346, and in Napier £1005. These figures were tho biggest for the Dominion.'
