Mrs. Poison and'Mrs'. Liffi•Jj ton spoke very feelingly, and gave a i| warm tribute of praise, and concluded « by wishing Mrs. Suisted many years in | which to enjoy their gift. \ Mrs. Suisted, in responding, said that \ what she had done. in tho past had I been a pleasuro, and she warmly thanksi ed the members for their valuablo gift j and kind expressions of goodwill. On ! her part she liad to thank all those' who J had worked so well during the election * campaign. Again thanking the ladies, Mrs. ; 'Suisted resumed her seat, being warmly 1 applauded by those present Afternoon tea was served, and a pleasant time spont. ■ , t Ladles' Tutorial Swimming ffllub, Mr. Thomas Shields, whose ruling passion is to. teach the young liow to swim desires assistance. He attends at • tho-ladies' baths at To Aro every Wednesday afternoon, ;and so great is the strain on his services—teaching and supervising candidates for distance cerhe would be very grateful if some lady swimmers would give him a hand. It is his desire to initiate a Ladies', Swimming Club as a means to .the end in view, and v'ould be glad to hear from any 'lady ; swimmers who desire to join, at the baths this afternoon. Mt; Shields holds that every boy and girl in the community sliouM'be taught to swim not alone to prevent them' drowning in case -of accident but as one of the first; adjuncts to perfect health. A{ Titahl Bay. • An enjoyable social and dance was held at Titahi Bay Club Hotel on Boxing Night. The room was daintily ar- . ranged by the committee,, and supper was 'handed roinul at,-the oloso of. the evening. The many guests included: - Mesdames Bell, Btirgess. Brudlee, Eraser, Edwards, Hyams, Proud, Scott, Seaton, Lucas, and M'Donald; Misses Rossitor, llodgers, Witt, Seaton, E. M'Donald, and T. M'Donald; Messrs. Burgess, Bell, Edwards, Frasor, Cook, Hyams. Parr, Streeter, Witt, J, Witt, Scott, M. Seaton, S. P. Wall'. Mr. D. Kenny renderod many delightful items, and Mesdames Fraser and Lucas supplied the music for dancing. The evening ended by singing "Auld Larig Syne" and., "pod Save the King." .- '• The executive of the... 'WellingtonWomen ''Teachers' Association entertained visiting teachers at lunch in Jliss Tendall's. tea-rooms yesterday. .Mrs. Earle is staying' with Mrs. ■im 'Kay and family, who are spending the holidays at Plimmcrton. Mrs. T. E. Maunsell (Carterton) is staying at Castlepoint. Tho engagement is'announced of Miss Winifred Hodgson to Mr. Ernest E. Edwards, schoolmaster, of Silvorbope. ■ Mrs. A. Wilson, who has been staying with her mother, Mrs. W. Kennedy, returned to, Wanganui yesterday. Mrs. Caverhill has returned to Hawera from a visit to Wellington, Mrs. Armstrong has been staying with her daughter, Mrs. Henry,' at Seatoun, and at the. end of her visit she leaves for Masterton. Mr. and Mrs. Inder (Masterton) are staying at "Balmoral," also Mr. and Mrs.' Baddeley. Miss Strauchon (New Plymouth), Miss Randell, . and Miss Currie (Wa.nganui). Dr. and Mrs. Baxter (Rotorua) are. visiting Wellington. Mrs. Henry (Masterton)' is staying at Seatotin. ' Mr. and Mrs. J. Owens, who bavo been staying at "Balmoral." are at pre-: sent visiting Rotorua. The district nurses wish to thank all friends who by gifts and donations helped to make their annual picnic to tho district children,a success. 'Thanks are also due to those who spent the day in helping with the children.
