THE FALKLANDS FIGHT
TOASTS IN TEA Buenos Ayres, December 27. The Gorman gunners in the Falkland Island fight opened fire at such long range that the men on the British warships were allowed to finish their breakfast, though they could be scarcely induced to remain. Mow, so eager were they to fight. They toasted the Germans for giving them a chance, though only tea was available. The Scharnhorst's firing is described as magnificent. After the destruction of the wardroom, one 8-inch shell struck the deck and skated tho whole length of tho vessel, and then exploded harmlessly. Tho British battleships, getting a clear range, poured shells on the enemy's decks, destroying the guns and decimating the crews. Admiral Sturdeo's repeated: signals demanding a surrender were not heeded.
