The affair, of course, was mainly a Children's one,'but adults'were present in large numbers. Tho children formed into a procession in Boulcott Street and headed by the brass band left for the ferry wharf where the Admiral was •waiting fo convey them across the harTiouri Specially chartered cars also , left the City 'from all points for Sea- , tcunj so that by ' mid-day Anderson's 1 Pa-Tk was crowded with hundreds of. [picnickers.' Sports programmes . for 1 adults and the children were got off 1 whilo there were numerous sideshows. |'A largo number of the clergy was present' throughout .the day. J OTHER PICNICS. THE SAILORS IN PORT. Christmas pleasures for the seamen were continued by tho Sailors' Friend Society on Boxing Day, when a big party journeyed• to the country by special tram for their picnic. Races, games, and sports, were indulged in -frithj uracil vigour. The famous buckjunipW caused roars.of laughter as man after;'man 'was thrown. -Williamei- ■the~ y donor of the building, vieited the party; she was received with rousing cheers, .„ The concert was given by the Misses Stairman, N. Oldin, I. Anderson, L. Parsloe, A. Smith, I. Henneker, and Messrs. Thomas, Cogdale, Williams, Smith. Dent, Sign, and Corporal Watson. The Misses Kreeft and Morrah presented the prizes donated.' Light refreshments wero hamTeS round by workers and performers, who 'were cheered-and thanked by the men : 'for a perfect day. .The annual picnic in connection with the young folks of the Petone Salvation Army was held at the HuttPark on Boxing Day. There, was a fair attendance and an enjoyable outing was spent; ■ A noticeable • feature iof the gathering was the absence of_ races, etc.," the children -having unanimously agreed to-hand over their prizermoney, to : the Belgian' Fund. FATHER LAND'S SPORTS. . It is estimated that about 1200 persons attended • Father Lane's sports on Boxing Day at Lower Hutt. Visitors were present from Wellington and Petono, including many of tho Eoman Catholic clergy, and the various events were got off promptly, reflecting credit on the committee responsible. Considerable interest -was taken in the dancing and "tilting the ring" events, and it was considered on tho whole to be one of the most'successful gatherings held on Fattier Lane's grounds. The Petone Municipal Brass Band presented an interesting musical programme, which w'as much appreciated. Messrs. O'Brien and Hayes were the handicappers, ..Mr.-. M. Welch was starter, whilst Messrs. Hickey and Seymour were'- judges of. .the sports. Throughout the day. children!s races were run, Messrs. Hayes, Gleeson; and Evans, superintending this department,and the tea-stall was in, the. capable hands of Mesdames Connolly, Patterson, vKeogh, and Mack. The cordials and sweets stalls were nnder the contror of Mesdames Cookson and Exton, and Mesdames Sullivan and M'Cauley. respectively. The judges of the dancing were Mrs. Kenny and.
