London, December 25. _ The Egyptian Press is respecting the new Sultan. The approval of the provinces is also very marked. The Home Office announces that now that Turkey's suzerainty over Egypt is terminated, the Egyptians have ceased to be alien enemies, though they do not become British.—("Times 1, and Sydney "Sun" Services.) . ' BCYPT'S HOPES. i ' PRIME MINISTER'S VIEWS. . (Rec. December 26, 7.15 p.m.) London, December 26. The Prime Minister of Egypfy Mahomed Said Pasha, interviewed, said the. change in political status was the realisation of a' long-felt hope. Owing to the geographical position of Egypt, which is of such importance as to excite the covetousness of other nations,, and in -order to safeguard her integrity, she must ■'subsist under tho aegis of some great Power. l Egypt desires freedom of action to deal with infernal autonomy. The. sole nation, fulfilling these conditions is Britain, who is powerfur enough to protect, and whose traditions assure the realisation of Egypt's ■ideal. He advocates that,the Legisla-, tive Assembly, which hitherto' was only consultative, should he given a deliberate voice, but. not in foreign affairs, and thus serve an apprenticeship in deliberative powers.—("Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services.)
