THORNDON METHODIST CIRCUIT
6The quarterly meeting of the Thorndon Methodist Churches was held at tho Molesworth Street Church, the Rev. 6. S. Cook presiding. Interesting reports were received from tho representatives to the recent District Synod at Masterton. As the quarter had not terminated only an approximate statement_ of income and expenditure was submitted. A Sunday evening's collection, amounting to £7 Cs. 4d., had been handed over to the Great Britain. Ireland, and Belgian Relief Fund. Retiring collections had beon taken up for the, North Island Methodist Orphanage. Orphanage Sunday had also been observed by the various Sunday schools. A recommendation was made to the churches that congregational quarterly social meetings be inaugurated. In order to liquidate the deficit it was decided to hold harvest festivals early in Fobruary, and tho Molesworth Street Ladies' Guild had generously undertaken to arrange at a later period a sale of work for the same purpose. The circuit stewards, Messrs. J. Cable and J. G. Raine' were thanked for their services and were reappointed. Motions.of sympathy wero passed to the relatives of members, who during the quarter had been translated to the higher life. To the Annual Conference to be held at Christchurch in February next, Messrs. J. Laurenson and J. Raine were appointed delegates, and Messrs. T. Sims and J. B. Haddon vice-delegates.
