DR. NEWMAN WINS. The rccount of the votes in the Wellington East electorate wa6 concluded last night by Mr. R. P. Ward, Clerk of the Magistrate's Court, acting as deputy for Mr. W. G. Riddcll, S.M. It was impossible owing to the necessity for the observance of certain legal formalities for the returning officer or Mr. Ward to declare the amended result la6t ■night. AH that may bo announced with certainty is that the recount leaves Dr. Newman still in the lead by about hal' his former majority of 87. OHINEHURI RECOUNT. - (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Hamilton, December 22. Mr. Joseph Clark, Reform candidal for Oliinemuri, who was beaten by Mf. Poland by one hundred votes, ha' lodged a petition for a recount. ' DUNEDIN CENTRAL RECOUNT. ' _ . Dunodln, December 22. The official recount of votes cast in the ■Dunedin Central election was commenced to-day before Mr. H. Y. Widclowson, S.M. Though work was continued in the evening the count was not completed, and was adjourned till 10 a.m. to-morrow.
