SCOW HAERE'S EXPERIENCE.
3 > THE CAPTAIN'S STORY. 1 (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! 5 plsborna, December 22. Speaking to a reporter at Gisborne to--3 daj;, Captain Eaddy, of the soow Haere, j which got into trouble near Gisf borne, stated that he left Wellington on December 8, and when off Kidnappers the following day he encountered a heavy westerly gale, this being so severe as to carry away the mainsail. A favourable slant on the . 10th enabled the sail to be repaired t under shelter of ■ Mahia. Putting to sea again, a succession of heavy galeß was experienced, whilst the scow was being Tilowii along by a westerly gale. On December 15 those on board caught a j glimpse of East Cape again. Another gale drove the boat ninety miles east\vard of the mainland, and it was not until December 19 that the vessel succeeded in beating back. Since' Saturday the Haere made three unsuccessful attempts to proceed north, and wa-B Tinable to obtain an anchorage along the coast. She entered Tolaga yesterday, but was blown, out again, and lost another mainsail, while she narrowly missed going ashore. Urgent signals secured a tug last night, and the scow was towed into Gisborne, where the sails are now being refitted.
